Plateau Police impound 14 vehicles in crackdown on illegal number plates, unregistered cars

Plateau State Police Enforce Vehicle Registration Laws
Lafia, Nigeria — The Plateau State Police Command has initiated a campaign to enforce vehicle registration laws and address the improper use of number plates across the state.
In a press release, SP Alfred Alabo, Public Relations Officer of the Command, announced that Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah launched the operation following instructions from Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu. The enforcement effort aims to combat security risks associated with unregistered vehicles, obscured or altered number plates, unauthorized foreign registration plates, and other violations that impede vehicle identification and tracking.
As part of the operation, the police have impounded 14 vehicles for various infractions. The owners have been charged in court for offenses related to the use of unregistered vehicles, possessing vehicles with covered or defaced number plates, unauthorized display of foreign number plates, and improperly replacing approved registration plates with manufacturer logos or other unapproved inscriptions.
“This enforcement is a proactive security measure designed to prevent criminal elements from using improperly registered vehicles to evade detection,” the Commissioner stated. He emphasized that the police operation aims to ensure compliance with legal standards for all vehicles.
Ewah instructed officers to uphold professionalism, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law throughout the operation. He reassured the public that the initiative is intended to enhance safety and strengthen crime prevention, rather than to inconvenience law-abiding citizens.
The Commissioner urged vehicle owners and motorists in the state to ensure their vehicles are registered timely and that number plates remain clearly visible as mandated by law. He cautioned that those who violate these regulations will face appropriate legal consequences.
“The Plateau State Police Command is dedicated to safeguarding lives and property and appreciates the continued support of residents in building a safer Plateau,” the statement concluded.
