Bauchi deploys 2,187 forest guards to strengthen security, protect natural resources

Bauchi State Governor Deploys New Vigilante Personnel for Environmental Security
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced the deployment of 2,187 newly trained members of the Bauchi State Vigilante and Forest Security Services (BSVFSS). This initiative aims to enhance security surveillance and safeguard the state’s forest reserves and natural resources.
The deployment took place following a passing-out parade held Saturday at the Police Training School in Yelwa, where Deputy Governor Mohammed Auwal Jatau represented Governor Mohammed in formally authorizing the operatives to begin their duties in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Governor Mohammed emphasized that this initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the protection of forest resources while also improving community security. He highlighted the vital role that the state’s forests play in agriculture, economic development, and biodiversity conservation, noting that these areas are increasingly under threat from illegal logging, poaching, and other exploitative activities.
“This initiative demonstrates our commitment to peacebuilding and symbolizes integrity and discipline,” the governor stated. He urged the newly appointed personnel to act as responsible ambassadors, adhering strictly to the rules of engagement to meet the objectives set for the Forest Guard Corps.
According to the governor, forested regions have become havens for criminal activities, underscoring the need for enhanced protection measures. The recruitment of these forest guards not only aims to preserve natural resources but also seeks to create job opportunities for the youth in the state.
Governor Mohammed expressed confidence in the training received by the recruits, encouraging them to fulfill their roles with integrity, professionalism, and dedication. He warned that indiscipline, abuse of office, or any collaboration with criminal elements would be met with strict penalties.
During the ceremony, State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Musa M. Bulus, stated that the newly trained operatives are expected to maintain high standards of conduct in their duties. He urged them to remain disciplined, respect citizens’ rights, and contribute effectively to the protection of lives and property in the state.
