Youths raise alarm over alleged ‘Renewed Hope’ govt registration in Taraba community

Youths in Taraba Demand Investigation into Alleged Fraudulent Registration Scheme

TARABA STATE, Nigeria — Concerned youths in the Takum Local Government Council have urged the state government to investigate reports of illegal activities involving the collection of fees from residents under the pretense of a government registration exercise.

In a report submitted to Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, residents have alleged that unidentified individuals are collecting a fee of 1,000 Naira from elderly persons and youths in various communities within the local government area. These individuals reportedly claim that the payment is necessary for enrollment in a federal government program called “Renewed Hope.”

The youths expressed that this practice has been recurring and is not the first instance of such exploitation in the region.

In a letter addressed to the governor and signed by Christopher Tanimu, the youths detailed their concerns regarding the financial burden and emotional distress caused by these alleged activities, especially affecting vulnerable members of the community.

They called on the state government to launch an immediate investigation and implement measures to safeguard citizens from further exploitation.

“We are bringing this matter to your attention because we believe you are a listening governor, and we trust your administration,” the letter stated.

The youths also expressed their goodwill towards the state and its leadership, wishing for peace and progress in Takum, Taraba State, and across Nigeria.
