Katsina Police Arrest Man for Selling Expired Milk
KATSINA, Nigeria — Authorities in Katsina State have taken a man into custody for allegedly tampering with expired powdered milk and selling it to the public in the Funtua local government area.
According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the arrest occurred on June 14 after officers from the Makera Police Division acted on credible intelligence. The suspect was found with 10 bags of powdered milk believed to be expired and deemed unsafe for consumption.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly mixed the expired milk with legitimate products, repackaging it in counterfeit bags before selling it to unsuspecting customers. The seized items have been secured as evidence, and the suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Sadiq-Aliyu indicated that the suspect will face charges in court following the completion of the investigation. The alleged violations contravene Sections 152 and 154 of the Penal Code Law 2021 (as amended), which address the sale and adulteration of harmful food and beverages.
“The suspect is in custody as the investigation proceeds. He will be formally arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.
In a related warning, Commissioner of Police Ali Umar-Fage urged traders and business owners to refrain from actions that may compromise public health. He also encouraged residents to report any suspicious business activities to the nearest police station.
