Blatant lie – Father Angelo counters police on viral video of armed men

Nigerian Priest Challenges Police Claims about Armed Men in Viral Video
Catholic Priest Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu has disputed statements from the Nigeria Police regarding a viral video that depicts heavily armed individuals on motorcycles. The police had identified these men as members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and registered hunters aiding security operations in Katsina State.
The video, which recently circulated on social media, shows armed men on motorcycles traveling through various locations. A police officer is seen in the footage gesturing toward the men, who are suspected of being bandits.
Audio captured in the clip includes a voice, believed to be that of a passenger in a commercial vehicle, referring to the riders using the term “barayin daji,” a Hausa phrase associated with terrorists. Another passenger questions the remark, suggesting concerns about labeling the individuals.
In a statement, police spokesperson Anietie Iniedu defended the convoy, asserting they are legitimate members of local vigilante and hunting groups contributing to security efforts in Musawa and Matazu Local Government Areas.
In response, Fada Angelo condemned the police’s assertions on Facebook, labeling them “a blatant lie.” He emphasized that the footage clearly shows police engaging with the armed men and criticized the police’s efforts to downplay the situation.
