Plateau attacks: OPSH relocates tactical headquarters to Mangu

The Joint Security Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OPSH), has relocated its tactical headquarters from Jos, the capital of Plateau State, to the Mangu Local Government Area. This move is in response to a recent surge in violence within the region.
The decision to redeploy the headquarters was prompted by a series of violent incidents, including a recent attack in Binper Village that resulted in the deaths of more than 25 individuals.
During a press briefing on Wednesday regarding the relocation, Major General Williams Dangana, the Commander of Operation Enduring Peace and General Officer Commanding of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, emphasized that the new location would enhance security operations and improve the response time to emergent threats.
Dangana explained that situating the task force leadership in Mangu would facilitate closer monitoring of local developments and enable quicker operational decisions. “Establishing a physical presence in Mangu will enable leadership to maintain direct, real-time assessment of the security situation and ensure timely tactical responses,” he stated.
He also noted that the relocation included the deployment of additional troops, equipment, and logistics, which were authorized by Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff. Dangana stressed that these reinforcements are essential for the personnel to execute their duties effectively.
“My presence here is not just personal; I’m accompanied by enhanced manpower and the necessary resources to fulfill this mandate,” he said.
In conjunction with this redeployment, the military has initiated a new operation dubbed Operation Hard Nut, which aims to dismantle armed groups and restore stability in Mangu and its neighboring areas.
Dangana reassured residents that security forces will maintain a strong presence, focused on neutralizing threats and ensuring the safe return and ongoing protection of the local populace.
This latest development comes amid weeks of increased violence in Plateau State, which has led to fatalities and the displacement of residents.
