Abeokuta, Ogun State — Governor Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all residents, stating that no life would be compromised for any reason.
This assertion was made during a security meeting with Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South-West, DIG Fayoade Adegoke, who visited the governor on Friday.
Representing Governor Abiodun, Secretary to the Ogun State Government Mr. Tokunbo Talabi expressed that the administration is focused on modernizing the state’s security infrastructure. He acknowledged that the evolving security challenges require a departure from traditional policing methods.
“As a government, we recognize that tackling insecurity has advanced beyond conventional means. We have enhanced our technology-driven approach and are prepared to support the police to improve our security landscape,” Talabi stated.
Governor Abiodun highlighted recent efforts, including the acquisition of 65 patrol vehicles aimed at bolstering the operational capabilities of security agencies in the state.
He commended Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni for his commitment and effectiveness, which have contributed to the successes of the “Gateway Shield” initiative.
During the meeting, DIG Adegoke called for an urgent transition to a technology-driven security framework to address the increasing incidence of cross-border crime. He noted that Ogun State’s significance as a major economic hub underscores the necessity of enhanced security measures.
Adegoke acknowledged the state’s achievements in apprehending criminal elements and urged the government to build on these successes by investing further in modern security infrastructure. He specifically highlighted the need for improved logistics support, citing the challenging terrain along international borders, which demands a robust fleet of durable patrol vehicles.
Additionally, he emphasized the acquisition of advanced surveillance drones as a critical priority, stating, “The need for this upgrade is very urgent. We must focus our resources on our international borders to prevent criminal elements from establishing a presence in our communities.”
