Osun State Police Arrest 24 Suspects Linked to Violent Crimes
Osogbo, Nigeria — The Osun State Police Command has apprehended 24 individuals believed to be involved in cult-related killings, political thuggery, and other violent offenses throughout the state.
During a press briefing on Monday at the police command headquarters, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining peace in anticipation of the upcoming governorship and general elections.
“Recent incidents of cult-related violence and thuggery have raised concerns,” Gotan stated. He noted that many incidents seemed to carry political implications. The Commissioner reported that intensified operations by the police led to the arrests of suspects linked to these criminal activities.
The briefing also aimed to update the public on the Command’s ongoing efforts to address cultism and political violence, which threaten public safety.
Among those arrested were Kareem Saheed, also known as “Tanfiani,” Oyeladun Muideen, “Akilapa,” and Ridwan Adekola. The list also includes Mukaila Azeez, “Mikki,” Sunday Friday, “Akube,” and Olamilekan Fatai, among others.
Gotan expressed that these arrests reflect the police’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence. He indicated that investigations into the suspects’ alleged activities would continue.
“I want to reiterate the Command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the forthcoming elections,” Gotan said.
He issued a warning to individuals planning to disrupt public peace, urging them to abandon such actions or face legal consequences. The Commissioner underscored that the police would not tolerate activities that could compromise the state’s security.
Additionally, Gotan assured law-abiding citizens that the Command would prioritize their safety while executing its duties in a professional, neutral, and non-partisan manner. He affirmed that the rule of law would be upheld impartially.
