Police Foil Armed Robbery in Akwa Ibom State
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced Tuesday that its officers successfully thwarted an armed robbery in a residential area of Iton Odoro village, located in the Ikono Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, police apprehended a suspect during the incident and recovered a locally-made single-barrel gun.
On August 17, 2026, around 6:30 p.m., police received a distress call reporting that an armed individual was threatening residents in the area. Officers were quickly deployed to the scene with assistance from community members, leading to the suspect’s arrest without incident.
The complainant reported that the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Okoyo, had entered the home through a back gate and brandished the firearm at the family.
Okoyo is now in police custody, and the recovered gun has been secured as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended community members for their prompt assistance and praised the police operatives for their swift and professional response to the situation.
