Bauchi Police Recover Vandalized Railway Sleepers, Arrest Suspect

Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the recovery of stolen railway sleepers in Doya Quarters and the arrest of a suspect connected to the theft of public infrastructure.

In a press release issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the command reported receiving credible intelligence regarding the vandalism of railway properties within the Bauchi metropolis around 12:30 am on August 17.

Following the tip-off, officers from the A Division Township quickly traced the stolen materials to a residential location in Doya Quarters. The police noted that the discovery was unexpected, as they had initially anticipated the stolen goods might be hidden in a warehouse or a government facility.

All of the vandalized railway sleepers were recovered and transported to the police station. The operation concluded at approximately 3:30 am on August 18, resulting in the arrest of a male suspect identified as Abubakar Sanusi.

The police command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of the alleged criminal syndicate.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, emphasizing that the protection of national assets requires collaborative efforts from both security agencies and the public.
