Zamfara Governor Suspends Officials Over Misconduct Allegations

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has suspended five officials from the Zamfara State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (ZAMCHEMA) amid allegations of financial misconduct and insubordination.

In a statement released by the Head of Service, Dr. Shehu Usman Hassan, the suspended officials include Mannir Sani, the Director of Finance; Hauwa’u Tanimu, the Director of Administration; Nafiu Sulaiman, the Deputy Director of Finance; Yunusa Muhammad, the Accountant; and Hambali Isah.

The governor has instructed the State Auditor-General to undertake a comprehensive investigation into these allegations, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to justice, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law, especially in dealing with civil servants.

In a related announcement, Governor Lawal appointed Ibrahim Sani as Special Assistant on Sign Language Interpretation. This role is part of the administration’s efforts to foster inclusive governance and enhance communication for individuals with hearing impairments.

The statement highlighted that Sani’s appointment aligns with the provisions of the Zamfara State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Law. Sani is a certified sign language interpreter and a trained special education teacher, who previously served as Vice Principal (Academics) at the School for Special Education in Gusau. He also holds the position of North-West Zonal Coordinator for the Association of Sign Language Interpreters of Nigeria (ASLIN).
