Benue Assembly urges FG to arrest, prosecute Katsina-Ala attackers

Benue Assembly Calls for Increased Security Following Attack on Sai Community

The Benue State House of Assembly has urged the Federal Government to enhance security in vulnerable communities and take decisive action against individuals responsible for a recent attack in the Sai Community, located in the Mbajir Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The resolution was adopted during a plenary session on Tuesday, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga. Lawmakers condemned the assault, which was reportedly perpetrated by suspected armed herders, deeming it both barbaric and unacceptable.

In their statement, the Assembly called for stronger security measures from both the Federal and Benue State Governments to prevent further violence and safeguard the lives and properties of residents in the affected areas. Additionally, they emphasized the necessity for law enforcement agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators in accordance with legal standards.

The Assembly’s resolution came in response to the July 5 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals in Sai Community. This incident has raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Benue State and has reignited calls for increased protective measures for rural communities.

In a related action, the House instructed the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to promptly provide relief supplies, including food and non-food items, to victims of the attack. Lawmakers stressed the importance of immediate humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected while efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the region continue.
