INEC list: Adebutu vows to challenge omission, says no cause for alarm

Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has reassured his supporters that there is no need for concern following the absence of his name from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Adebutu emphasized that he completed his digital registration with the party within the required timeframe and submitted all necessary documentation to INEC ahead of the deadline.
“I have not at any point left the PDP, and my commitment to our great party remains unwavering,” Adebutu stated, reiterating his status as a duly registered member.
He also highlighted that the primary election, which designated him as the PDP candidate, was conducted with officials from INEC present as observers. Adebutu asserted that the relevant documents had been submitted for verification and confirmation.
The candidate raised concerns about his omission, suggesting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have exerted undue influence on INEC. He pointed out that the names of other PDP candidates for the Ogun State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate were included in the commission’s published lists.
“The circumstances surrounding this omission raise serious questions,” Adebutu said, noting the inconsistency in the listing of candidates from his party.
He indicated that the PDP would address the issue through proper channels and advocate for adherence to due process. Adebutu also reported instances of obstruction to the PDP’s campaign, including restrictions on billboards, attacks at campaign events, and harassment of party members.
Despite these challenges, he urged supporters to remain calm, assuring them that appropriate measures are being taken to resolve the situation.
“No amount of intimidation should prevent the people of Ogun State from having a fair opportunity to choose their leaders,” he asserted.
Adebutu expressed confidence in a favorable resolution and reaffirmed his dedication to promoting better leadership and improving the lives of Ogun State residents.
“Our cause is bigger than any individual. It is about the dignity of our people, the progress of our state, and the right of Ogun people to determine our own future,” he added.
