Katsina State Troops Prevent Terrorist Attack on Commuters

Troops from the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with hybrid security forces, successfully thwarted a planned terrorist attack on the Kakumi–Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. During the operation, eight suspected terrorists were killed.

The incident was reported by Zagazola Makama, a security expert focusing on counter-insurgency efforts in the Lake Chad region. According to Makama, the operation was initiated based on intelligence indicating a potential attack orchestrated by armed militants loyal to a known kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki.

The report detailed that the suspected terrorists were detected approaching their target area on five motorcycles. In response, troops and hybrid forces quickly mobilized and established an ambush along the anticipated route.

In a subsequent engagement, the troops encountered the militants in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of eight assailants. Following the confrontation, an exploitation of the area was conducted, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles reportedly used by the attackers.

Makama further emphasized that troops continue to maintain aggressive patrols and surveillance in the region to deter any potential retaliatory actions against local communities and road users. Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains vigilant in its efforts to disrupt the movement of terrorist groups within Katsina State and the broader North-West region.
