Oyo State Police Arrest Four in Connection with Civil Unrest

IBADAN, Oyo State — The Oyo State Police Command has detained four individuals linked to recent civil unrest in parts of Ibadan, the state capital. The arrests were made amid rising tensions following the alleged killing of a man identified as a Yoruba during a confrontation with individuals believed to be of Hausa descent in the Ojoo area.

In a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade on Thursday, the police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody for further interrogation. The statement clarified that the arrests aim to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Widespread unrest reportedly ensued on Wednesday as a result of the confrontation, leading to the death of another individual amidst the chaos.

Ayanlade stated that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for a comprehensive investigation into the events, including any related criminal activities stemming from the incident.

“The investigation is underway to determine the details of the attempted robbery, mob action, and public disturbances,” Ayanlade said.
