Oyo Abduction: Makinde’s political ambition irrelevant to security – Abati

Anchor Addresses Allegations Against Oyo Governor’s Political Ambitions
On Tuesday, Reuben Abati, an anchor on Arise Television’s “Morning Show,” dismissed claims that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s political ambitions are related to recent security issues in the state.
This response came after allegations surfaced that Makinde has shown insensitivity toward the challenges faced by schoolchildren and teachers who were recently rescued from kidnappers. During a television appearance, Makinde suggested a connection between his political aspirations and the abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, which occurred shortly after he announced his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election.
Abati expressed concern over this assertion, stating that it is unjust for Makinde to imply a link between his presidential ambitions and the kidnapping incident.
“It’s not good on the part of Governor Makinde to think that the rescue of the children has anything to do with his political ambition,” Abati said. “His political ambition is totally irrelevant to this subject. It is delusional for him to suggest that declaring for the presidency led to the abduction of children in Oyo State.”
Abati further criticized Makinde’s communication, stating it lacked clarity and suggested irrational conclusions. He also noted that he does not believe Makinde’s ambitions pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s political aspirations.
