Governor Alia Urges Timely Information Sharing to Combat Insecurity in Benue

OTUKPO, Benue State — Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has urged residents to report security issues promptly to facilitate a swift response from law enforcement.

The governor made this appeal during a visit to the Otukpo palace of the Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty Dr. John Elaigwu, on Tuesday. His visit was prompted by a recent attack on Otukpo-Nobi and surrounding areas in the Benue South Senatorial District.

Governor Alia emphasized the importance of community involvement in security measures and called on the public—especially young people—to remain calm while security agencies work to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

Condemning the attacks, Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with security forces to address violence in the state. He announced plans for a round-table meeting with leaders from affected communities to discuss their concerns and efforts for achieving lasting peace.

In response to the governor’s visit, Dr. John Elaigwu expressed gratitude, stating that the governor’s presence provided comfort during a time of mourning. He acknowledged the efforts of security agencies but also called for proactive measures to enhance public safety, criticizing misinformation circulating on social media regarding the incidents.

Dr. John Ochai, the Ad’Ohimini, also praised Governor Alia for his support, noting that his statements brought solace to the people of Benue South during this challenging period.

Following his meeting with local leaders, Governor Alia visited victims receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo. He commended the Chief Medical Director for providing urgent care and assured that the government would cover the victims’ medical expenses.
