Suspected gunmen abduct four students, school principal, NECO ad hoc staff in Kogi


Gunmen attacked Government Secondary School in Odo-Ekina, located in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Tuesday evening, abducting four students, the school principal, and a member of the National Examinations Council (NECO) staff. The incident occurred around 5:25 p.m. while students were taking their NECO examinations.

ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State Police Command, confirmed the attack in a statement released Wednesday.

In response to the incident, a combined team of security operatives initiated a search-and-rescue operation and is actively pursuing the assailants to ensure their apprehension. According to the statement, one student has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to free the remaining victims and capture those responsible for the attack.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi, along with the Brigade Commander and the Kogi State Security Adviser to the Governor, is en route to the scene to assess the situation firsthand.

Residents have been assured of the commitment of security agencies to ensure the safe return of the remaining victims and to restore normalcy in the area. A detailed statement with further verified information will be issued as the investigation unfolds.
