Governor Fintiri Swears in 21 New Local Government Chairmen in Adamawa State

YOLA, Adamawa State — Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Wednesday officially swore in 21 newly elected council chairmen, who will oversee local government administration in Adamawa State for the next three years.

The election, conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) on June 13, was won by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During the ceremony held in Yola, Fintiri congratulated the newly elected officials, which also include 226 councillors, on their victories. He urged them to approach their responsibilities with diligence and to avoid corrupt practices.

The governor emphasized the importance of remaining in their respective local government areas rather than relocating to the state capital.

“As chairmen of councils, you are the government at the grassroots,” Fintiri told the newly sworn-in officials. He stressed that they should be a positive reflection of government policies aimed at improving the lives of rural residents.

“You must be the vanguards for stimulating development in your respective areas,” he added. He called on the chairmen to ensure the community feels the impact of governance through accessibility and responsiveness to local issues.

Fintiri also encouraged collaboration with traditional rulers and Development Area Administrators to rebuild trust and confidence in the government’s initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the other chairmen, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin, Chairman of Yola North Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the governor and the electorate. He reassured the community of their commitment to fulfilling their duties effectively.

“We heard you loud and clear during our campaign tour, and we assure you of our commitment to providing the needed dividends of democracy,” Jibrin stated.

The oath of office and allegiance was administered by Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, the State Chief Judge.
