Peter Obi reacts to death of ex-PDP chairman, Bamanga Tukur
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his condolences following the death of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Tukur passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 90.
The news of Tukur’s death was confirmed in a statement released by his family, which was signed by his son, Awwal D. Tukur.
In his response, Obi characterized Tukur as a distinguished statesman whose extensive contributions to Nigeria’s public sector and African commerce have left an indelible mark. “I just read the sad news of the death of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, CON, a distinguished statesman, former Governor of Gongola State, and veteran business leader,” Obi stated.
Obi extended his sympathies to the Tukur family and the people of Adamawa State during this time of mourning. He offered prayers for Tukur, asking for divine mercy and support for his loved ones. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his loved ones the strength to bear this great loss,” he added.
