FCT Police Arrest Suspect Following Kidnapping Incident
Abuja — Following a kidnapping at the Yellow House in Mpape, operatives from the FCT Police Command arrested a suspect in Niger State. The arrest took place on July 10, 2026, two days after the incident, which occurred on July 8.
FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi informed reporters on Monday that the suspect, identified as Umaru Danda, a native of Zamfara State, was apprehended in Gadabiu village. Authorities believe Danda was a key supplier of hard drugs and other illicit materials to the kidnappers involved in the Mpape case.
During the investigation, Danda led police to three locations in Niger State used by the kidnapping gang. Items recovered included 25 cards of 225 mg tramadol, two wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, 500 mg packs of cannabis pills, and several other drug-related items. Other evidence included an AK-47 rifle, two ATM cards, cash totaling N250,000, and various bags.
Sanusi stated that Danda, along with the confiscated items, is currently in custody and will face charges upon the completion of investigations.
In a separate incident, the FCT Police Command achieved another success by rescuing a victim kidnapped in the Karshi area of Abuja. On July 12, police received reports that armed suspects had abducted an individual from Karshi, creating panic among residents.
Following the distress call, Sanusi directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to initiate immediate action. The team focused their efforts in the Waru hills, where they navigated unconventional routes linking the FCT to Nasarawa State, while also searching the Karshi area.
Their efforts were rewarded on July 16, 2026, around 12:45 AM, when the victim was successfully rescued unharmed and without the payment of any ransom. The individual was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with her family.
