‘Ignore fake 20% electricity bonus claim’ – YEDC tells customers

Yola Electricity Distribution Company Warns Customers of Fraudulent Scheme

YOLA, Nigeria — The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has issued a warning to its customers regarding a deceptive message circulating on social media. The misinformation claims that electricity consumers can receive an additional 20 percent in bonus units when recharging their prepaid meters through unofficial channels.

In a statement released Monday, the company deemed the claim as false and urged customers to ignore the misleading information, clarifying that it did not originate from YEDC.

The company emphasized that it does not offer bonus electricity units through any individuals, agents, personal bank accounts, phone numbers, or social media contacts. Customers are advised to purchase electricity tokens solely through approved cashless payment platforms, which include the YEDC Pay App, OPay, Interswitch, and other authorized vending channels. Alternatively, customers can visit the nearest YEDC office for assistance.

YEDC cautioned customers against sharing their meter details or personal information, or making payments to unauthorized individuals claiming to represent the company.

The company reiterated its commitment to transparency and safety, urging customers to rely exclusively on information provided through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraud.

YEDC expressed gratitude to its customers for their continued cooperation.
