Former Chelsea player Marcel Desailly has expressed reservations about the club’s interest in acquiring Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix.
Desailly believes the Chelsea squad, under coach Xabi Alonso, would benefit more from a center-back with greater experience rather than Lacroix. The 26-year-old French international has reportedly informed Crystal Palace of his desire to seek new opportunities.
In comments to Football London, Desailly acknowledged that while Lacroix could be a “decent signing,” he might not fully meet Chelsea’s immediate needs.
“I think that Maxence Lacroix would be a decent signing for Chelsea,” Desailly stated. “I don’t want to criticise the player. Alonso wants to implement his ideas and philosophy with a back three, and I think it’s a good move for him and Chelsea.”
However, Desailly posed a critical question regarding Lacroix’s fit: “Is he what Chelsea really need? I believe they need a center-back with more experience, an established player who can lead the defense.”
As the transfer window continues, Chelsea’s pursuit of Lacroix remains a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike.
