Eagles Focus on Upcoming Match Against Togo
Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba has turned his attention to the team’s upcoming Group B match against the Sparrow Hawks of Togo, scheduled for Thursday.
The Nigerian squad, the defending champions, opened their title defense at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship with an impressive 4-2 victory over their rivals, the Black Satellites of Ghana, on Monday. The team featured standout performances from Muiz Adeleke, who scored two goals, alongside contributions from Olayemi Ayinla and Oraro Isaac.
As the Eagles prepare for the match against Togo, the focus remains on securing a place in the semi-finals of the tournament. Togo, on the other hand, faces pressure after their 3-1 loss to Burkina Faso in their first game.
Maikaba is not underestimating the challenge posed by the Sparrow Hawks.
“We have finished with the first game, and the second game is going to be equally important because Togo are also not pushovers, and it’s also a rivalry game between Nigeria and Togo,” Maikaba said.
He emphasized the need for thorough preparation: “We have to put our heads down, plan very well for Togo, and make sure we get the second win that will qualify us for the semi-finals.”
