Nigeria’s Goodness Nwachukwu Breaks World Record at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow
GLASGOW – Goodness Nwachukwu, the defending champion, shattered the world record in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event, securing Nigeria’s seventh gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In a standout performance, Nwachukwu achieved a throw of 39.66 meters, surpassing her own F42 World Record by more than three meters. This remarkable feat also earned her the Commonwealth title.
The event saw strong competition, with Welsh athletes Funmi Oduwaiye and Bree Cronin completing the podium. Oduwaiye claimed the silver medal with a throw of 38.52 meters, while Cronin secured bronze with a season-best performance of 36.00 meters.
Additionally, Nigeria’s Jessica Oji won silver in the women’s shot put event with a throw of 17.87 meters.
Currently, Nigeria ranks fifth on the medals table, boasting a total of seven gold medals, five silver, and two bronze.
