Bandits attack Catholic Bishop’s residence in Benue, abduct seminarian

Gunmen Abduct Catholic Seminarian in Benue State

OTUKPO, Benue State — A Catholic seminarian, identified as Mr. Kelvin Ochai, was abducted on Wednesday by armed men suspected to be bandits in the Asa III area of Otukpo Local Government Area.

The assailants attacked the Bishop’s residence, prompting swift concern within the local community.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Aboyi Itodo, Chancellor of the Otukpo Diocese, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday. Bishop Michael Ekwoyi Apochi expressed his profound sorrow over the abduction, urging all members of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and people of goodwill to pray for Ochai’s prompt and safe return.

“We commit our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den throughout the country to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release from the hands of their abductors,” the statement read. Bishop Apochi also called for prayers for other Nigerians currently held captive by criminal elements.

The Benue State region has seen a rise in kidnapping incidents, raising concerns over safety among residents.
