Social media influencer shot dead during livestream

César Gastélum Killed While Livestreaming in Culiacán

CULIACÁN, Mexico — César Gastélum, a popular social media influencer known for his comedy videos on TikTok, was shot dead on Tuesday while livestreaming outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán.

During the livestream, Gastélum was with two friends when two men arrived on a motorcycle. One of the assailants reportedly opened fire at close range before the suspects fled the scene.

Initial reports from local media indicated that police mistakenly believed Gastélum was a delivery rider, as he and his friends were dressed in bright yellow jackets and carrying delivery bags. Authorities later confirmed his identity.

As of now, no arrests have been made. Police are currently analyzing cartridge casings found at the scene and reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

Authorities have not provided a motive for the attack, and it remains unclear if Gastélum had received any threats prior to the incident.

Gastélum’s death adds to a troubling trend of violence against social media personalities in Mexico. In May 2025, beauty influencer Valeria Márquez, 23, was shot and killed while livestreaming from a salon in Zapopan. In December 2024, another influencer, Leobardo “El Gordo Peruci” Aispuro, was also killed in Culiacán.
