Niger State Police Arrest Man for Alleged Kidnapping Attempt

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Tukur Bello, in connection with an alleged attempted kidnapping in Mokwa Local Government Area.

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred around midnight on July 25, 2026, when Bello reportedly invaded a residence in the Takuma Fulani Camp while two women were asleep. Armed with a sharp cutlass, he allegedly threatened to abduct them.

The two women raised an alarm, prompting an alleged assault by Bello on one of them as an attempt to silence her. The victim sustained significant cuts on her hands during the altercation.

Community members and local vigilantes responded to the commotion and intervened, successfully apprehending Bello. He was taken into custody with the cutlass believed to have been used in the attack.

The case was first reported to the Mokwa Divisional Police Headquarters and has since been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation.

Bello remains in custody and is currently undergoing interrogation, with plans to formally charge him in court.

Abiodun has urged residents to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
