Davido Credits P-Square for Musical Inspiration
Afrobeats superstar Davido recently acknowledged the significant impact of the iconic music duo P-Square on his career. In an interview with the BBC, he reflected on his admiration for twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye during his school years, emphasizing their role as trailblazers for African artists in the global music scene.
Davido noted that P-Square’s collaborations with international stars, such as Snoop Dogg and their friendships with figures like Kanye West, instilled in him a belief that African musicians could compete worldwide. “P-Square inspired me. I used to tell my friends in school about how they were two African artists who had a song with Snoop Dogg and were friends with Kanye West,” he said.
He further remarked that witnessing P-Square break through barriers motivated many young Nigerian artists, including himself, to aspire for greater achievements.
P-Square is widely recognized as one of Africa’s most influential music groups. Their success has played a crucial role in the global rise of Afrobeats, inspiring a new generation of musicians, including Davido, Wizkid, and Rema.
