Nigerian Billionaire Joseph Okafor Reportedly Kidnapped in Anambra State
Awka, Nigeria — Sir Joseph Eze Okafor, a prominent billionaire businessman and founder of Jezco Oil and Jezco Group, has reportedly been kidnapped in Anambra State.
According to lawyer Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, Okafor was abducted while praying on a mountain in Awka last week. Iwuchukwu shared the details in a Facebook post on Sunday, noting that the businessman had gone to the site alone, without his usual security personnel.
Iwuchukwu stated that unidentified gunmen allegedly seized Okafor during his prayer session and transported him to an undisclosed location.
The reported kidnapping has caused significant distress within Okafor’s community of Ekwulobia, where residents are grappling with the news of his abduction. Iwuchukwu characterized Okafor as the wealthiest individual from the area, emphasizing his substantial influence on local affairs.
In response to the situation, community leaders have decided to postpone the annual New Yam Festival, a tradition that has never before been deferred. Iwuchukwu highlighted that community members believed it inappropriate to hold celebrations while the family of their “illustrious son” is facing this crisis.
As further developments arise, the community remains hopeful for Okafor’s safe return.
