WUKARI, Taraba State — The death toll from recent attacks along the Rafin Kada–Wukari road has increased to 11, according to reports from local authorities. The latest incidents occurred on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of six individuals traveling in a vehicle from Donga who suffered gunshot injuries.

The violence reportedly began when a former youth leader was shot while traveling from Wukari to Rafin Kada. A former local councillor was also attacked but managed to escape with injuries.

In a separate incident, three individuals returning from a market in Wukari were killed along the same route. These attacks have raised significant concerns regarding the safety of commuters and residents, particularly occurring in an area where both Mobile Police and military checkpoints are present.

The community of Rafin Kada is mourning the victims amid rising tensions in neighboring areas. This surge in violence follows a troubling trend of attacks along the Rafin Kada–Wukari axis, which has been highlighted in prior security reports. Troops from Operation Whirl Stroke have conducted security operations in and around Rafin Kada in response to these persistent threats.

As of press time, efforts to confirm the identities of the deceased or the details surrounding the six passengers’ deaths had not been successful.

Taraba State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, stated that he has encountered difficulties in reaching the Divisional Police Officer due to poor network connectivity. “Network has not been good. I am trying to reach the Divisional Police Officer, but I couldn’t, though I will keep trying,” Mshelizah said.

Authorities continue to investigate the situation as the community seeks answers and safety amid ongoing violence.
