Jos North, Plateau State — Troops from Sector 3 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have successfully restored calm following a confrontation between farmers and herders in the Dong Community of Jos North Local Government Area.

The altercation took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at approximately 1:35 p.m. in a riverside area of the community, according to a military source.

Upon receiving reports of the clash, military personnel stationed at the Dong Check Point quickly mobilized to the scene to prevent further escalation of the situation.

“Upon arrival, the troops brought the situation under control and facilitated efforts to restore calm in the affected area,” the source stated. During the incident, a farmer, identified as John Ajah, sustained injuries and was promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

In addition to their immediate response, the troops engaged with local community stakeholders to address the underlying issues and prevent future tensions. “Following the prompt intervention of the troops and engagement with relevant community stakeholders, the dispute was resolved, and normalcy was restored,” the source added.

Security forces remain vigilant in the community to preempt any further escalation and to promote peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities.
