Taraba Health Stakeholders Commend Tinubu’s Healthcare Reforms
Stakeholders in Taraba State Praise Federal Health Initiatives
JALINGO, Taraba State — Stakeholders in the health sector of Taraba State have expressed support for the initiatives launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, specifically the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the Joint Annual Review process. These reforms are aimed at enhancing the country’s healthcare system.
The commendation came during the opening of a two-day Joint Annual Review Meeting held in Jalingo.
Dr. Bordiya Buma, the State Commissioner for Health, emphasized the need for stakeholders to improve the implementation of budget indicators to enhance healthcare delivery and achieve better health outcomes in the state. He noted that this year’s review meeting is the second of its kind, following the inaugural event last year. Dr. Buma stated that these meetings provide a platform for stakeholders to evaluate progress, identify gaps, and devise strategies to address areas of suboptimal performance.
“Regular performance reviews are crucial for strengthening the state’s health system and ensuring government investments lead to improved healthcare services for residents,” Dr. Buma added.
Reuben Wunuji, who presented an overview of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, highlighted that the reform prioritizes community-based healthcare services. He reported that the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has introduced the National Health Fellows Programme to foster accountability, enhance community engagement, and raise awareness at the grassroots level.
Tukura Nuhu, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency, also praised the current administration’s commitment to reforming healthcare delivery in the state. He reiterated the significance of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the Joint Annual Review process in the ongoing efforts to improve the healthcare system.
The meeting is focused on expanding the health workforce, improving service delivery, strengthening accountability, and accelerating progress toward universal health coverage in Taraba State.
