19-year-old woman arrested for poisoning husband 40 days after wedding
Bauchi State Police have apprehended a 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, in connection with an alleged attempt to poison her husband in Gwamma village, located in the Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
The police announced the arrest via a post on their official social media account on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and through a statement from spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib.
The incident reportedly took place approximately 40 days after the couple’s marriage. Authorities state that Musa allegedly mixed a toxic substance into her husband’s food on August 12.
The victim was promptly transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is currently receiving treatment. According to police reports, he is in stable condition.
Officers were alerted to the situation after receiving a distress call from an unidentified woman, prompting an immediate response to the scene. During subsequent interrogation, Musa reportedly confessed to the act.
The police confirmed that an empty bottle believed to have contained the poison, along with food remnants, was recovered and has been registered as evidence.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, according to the police.
