WAFCON 2026: Algeria claim bronze after beating Morocco

Algeria secured the bronze medal in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday, defeating Morocco in the third-place match. The game concluded in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout in which Algeria triumphed 3-2.
Morocco started the match aggressively and nearly took the lead in the 17th minute, but Ibtissam Jraidi’s shot hit the crossbar. The team eventually broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, when Kautar Azraf found the net.
Algeria equalized with just seven minutes left in regulation. A well-placed through ball from Melissa Bethi set up Boussaha, who calmly finished past the Moroccan goalkeeper.
