Pastor Enenche Calls for Credible Census Amid Religious Demographics Debate
ABUJA — Dr. Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of the Dunamis International Gospel Center, has urged the Nigerian government to conduct a credible population census to clarify the nation’s religious demographics. His remarks came during a sermon on Sunday in response to statements made by Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir, who asserted that Muslims outnumber Christians in Nigeria.
Pastor Enenche questioned the reluctance to conduct a census, asking, “If you think you are superior, why didn’t you people allow for the census all these while?” He emphasized the importance of an accurate census, suggesting that it would reveal significant Christian populations in areas where they are presumed minimal.
The pastor cautioned against underestimating the Christian community in Nigeria, stating, “Nobody should take Christians in this country for granted. Don’t take the church in Nigeria for granted.”
He further condemned ongoing violence and societal destruction, urging individuals to reflect on their contributions to national development and expressing discontent with those who perpetuate conflict. His comments underscore the tensions surrounding religious identity and representation in Nigeria.
