Police nab two ‘one chance’ suspects in Abeokuta, foil robbery attempt

Operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two individuals suspected of being part of a notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate operating in Abeokuta.

The suspects, identified as 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq and 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani, were apprehended on Saturday during an intelligence-led operation. Police officials received credible information indicating that members of the syndicate, who typically pose as commercial taxi drivers to rob unsuspecting passengers, were seen in a taxi heading toward the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.

Following the tip-off, VCRU operatives pursued the suspects and successfully intercepted their vehicle.

On Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrests. During interrogation, both suspects admitted to being active participants in the robbery syndicate that has targeted commuters in the Abeokuta area.

Babaseyi noted that police efforts are ongoing to locate other members of the syndicate, assess the full scope of their activities, and recover stolen items.

State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the operatives for their swift action and tactical professionalism. He emphasized the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activity in Ogun State, asserting that criminals will find no refuge in the area.

The Commissioner also encouraged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities through local emergency lines or the Gateway Shield.
