Fire Destroys Millions Worth of Goods in Ibadan Market
IBADAN, Nigeria — A fire that erupted in a section of the Gbagi Market in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has resulted in significant property loss. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately noon in a row of lock-up shops located at 348 ZI/E Milo Zone within the Bola Ige International Market.
Initial reports indicate that multiple shops were affected by the blaze, leading to the destruction of goods valued in the millions of naira. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Hon. Maroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the event and indicated that an investigation has begun to determine the fire’s cause.
Akinwande stated that upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found two of the nine lock-up shops consumed by flames. Their prompt response helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent shops and properties.
“The fire crew immediately commenced firefighting operations,” Akinwande said. “No casualty was recorded. The post-fire investigation is ongoing to determine the root cause of the fire incident.”
