Gunmen kill police inspector, seven others in Adamawa

Gunmen believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram attacked the village of Gaya-Dlang, near Fa’agaya, in the Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including a police inspector.
The assault, which also resulted in the abduction of four girls, occurred on the evening of Monday, August 17. Witnesses reported that the attackers set fire to homes and stole food supplies during the raid.
Communities within Hong LGA have faced multiple assaults in recent months. A previous attack took place last month in the Zah community of the Yadul District, where a forest guard and three local residents were killed, and a woman was abducted.
Dr. Aliyu Yerima Hong, the chairman of Hong LGA, confirmed the latest casualties and expressed concern over the broader impact on the community. He noted that several individuals were also injured in the attack.
“The situation has created a serious fear among residents, as approximately 80 percent of the peasant farmers in the area have abandoned their farms,” Hong stated.
Despite the ongoing violence, he assured that his council would continue to collaborate with military and security agencies, as well as local hunters and vigilantes, to enhance security efforts throughout the local government area.
