EFCC drags alleged fake car dealer to court over N7.8m

IBADAN, NIGERIA — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Adeoye Gabriel Adewale and his company, De Lukas Global Concept Limited, for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent car transaction valued at 7.8 million naira.

The arraignment occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the Oyo State High Court before Justice Olusola Adetujoye. The EFCC claims that Adewale falsely represented himself as a car dealer and, using a fictitious car dealership, persuaded Abdulrasaq Awotedo to pay 7,819,000 naira for the purchase of two vehicles.

According to the EFCC, the funds were transferred into a First Bank account under De Lukas Global Concept Limited, after which Adewale allegedly misappropriated the money for his own personal use.

The charges against Adewale and his company include a single count of stealing by conversion involving the amount of 7,819,000 naira, purportedly belonging to Awotedo. The official charge states that between October 6, 2021, and March 23, 2022, Adewale converted the funds for personal use, thereby committing an offense in violation of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Act.

During the court proceedings, Adewale pleaded not guilty to the allegations. Following his plea, EFCC prosecutor Sanusi Galandachi requested a trial date and sought to have the defendant remanded in a correctional facility.

In response, Adewale’s attorney, A. Towolawi, informed the court that a bail application had been filed. Towolawi argued for his client’s release on bail pending the outcome of the case.

Justice Adetujoye adjourned the hearing to consider the bail application and ordered that Adewale be held at the Agodi Correctional Centre until the next court date.
