Melaye heads to court as Tinubu appoints head of Nigeria revenue as campaign fund raiser

Former Senator Dino Melaye has announced plans to file a legal challenge against President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of Dr. Zacch Adedeji as Deputy Director of Fundraising for Tinubu’s campaign for the 2027 presidential election. Melaye contends that this appointment represents a significant conflict of interest.

The announcement comes in the wake of the All Progressives Congress (APC) unveiling its campaign council on Saturday, drawing attention due to several prominent names included on the list.

Melaye expressed concerns regarding Dr. Adedeji’s dual role as Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and a position in the politically affiliated campaign. Many Nigerians voiced their apprehensions on social media, questioning whether tax revenues might be misappropriated to support the president’s re-election efforts.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, Melaye stated, “The most disturbing part of the list released by the APC is seeing the chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service serving as Director in charge of fundraising for Tinubu’s presidential campaign. Is there no conflict in this?”

He added that he plans to challenge the appointment legally, asserting, “If that is not a conflict of interest, then I don’t know what would be. A civil servant, who earns a salary and is supposed to adhere to public service rules, is not just supporting a presidential candidate but serving as Deputy Director in charge of fundraising.”
