Borno State Authorities Arrest Suspected ISWAP Operative

Borno State, Nigeria – Troops from Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have apprehended a suspected operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The arrest occurred on August 24, 2026, during an operation in Mairari town, located in the Guzamala Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Bubba Hamadu, was taken into custody at approximately 2:22 PM. His arrest followed a preliminary investigation that revealed a photograph on his mobile phone displaying him with unidentified individuals carrying AK-47 rifles, raising concerns about potential connections to ISWAP elements active in the region.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that Hamadu’s mobile device also contained various personal items, including a Tecno phone, an umbrella, a set of prayer beads, a mirror, an arrow, and eye drops. These findings prompted further scrutiny regarding his affiliations.

Hamadu has since been transferred to the Headquarters of Sector 3 for Operation HADIN KAI, where he will undergo additional investigations and appropriate legal action.
