Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘He represents modern football’ – Luca Toni names player to win award
Luca Toni, a former Italian striker, has endorsed Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane for the 2023 Ballon d’Or. Toni expressed his support during Kane’s official presentation ceremony for the 2025/26 European Golden Shoe.
Toni praised Kane, the England captain, for his impressive performance last season, highlighting that he scored 73 goals for both club and country. He emphasized that this achievement positions Kane among the elite in modern football.
“You represent modern football; you deserve to win the Ballon d’Or,” Toni stated. He noted that Kane’s success includes winning the European Golden Boot for the second time, a feat surpassed only by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Last season, you scored 73 goals. This is the second-best season of this century,” Toni added, reinforcing his belief in Kane’s qualifications for the prestigious award.
