2026 Ballon d’Or: Organisers list criteria to decide winner

The organizers of the Ballon d’Or award have outlined the selection criteria for this year’s recipients as anticipation builds for the gala scheduled for October 26.

This 70th edition of the award is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. Following the announcement of the nominees, an international jury comprising specialized journalists will cast their votes.

The voting panel includes one representative from each of the top 100 nations in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking and the top 50 in the Women’s World Ranking.

According to a statement on the organizers’ website, voters will base their selections on three established criteria: individual and decisive performance, collective achievements and trophies won, and a commitment to class and fair play both on and off the field.

The points accumulated through the voting process will determine the winners during the ceremony on October 26.

Last year, Ousmane Dembélé of France and Paris Saint-Germain won his first Men’s Ballon d’Or, while Aitana Bonmatí of Spain made headlines by winning her third consecutive Ballon d’Or Féminin.
