Two civilians killed as motorcycle triggers IED blast in Zamfara


Two civilians were killed in Zamfara State when a motorcycle triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Gurusu–Gwashi road in the Bukuyyum Local Government Area. The incident took place at approximately 8:04 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Troops from the 1 Brigade, stationed at Forward Operating Base Gwashi, responded to the explosion. “Preliminary findings indicated that a motorcycle had triggered the explosive device,” Makama reported.

The blast resulted in the deaths of one male and one female, whose remains were recovered at the scene. Emergency responders transported the bodies to Bukuyyum General Hospital for further procedures.

Following the incident, military forces continued to maintain a presence in the area to prevent additional attacks and restrict the movement of suspected terrorists.
