FAAN reverses Bolt ban after backlash over N30,000 airport taxi fare
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has lifted its prohibition on e-hailing services, including Bolt, from operating at Nigerian airports. This decision follows significant criticism regarding the steep taxi fares set at these locations.
Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, announced the policy reversal in a statement released Thursday.
The initial ban sparked controversy and coincided with the rollout of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAM). A viral video on social media platform X highlighted the issue, showing a passenger’s concern over an exorbitant car hire fee of ₦30,000 for what is typically an ₦8,000 trip.
FAAN clarified that ACHRAM is distinct from e-hailing platforms like Bolt and Uber, emphasizing that it does not aim to centralize control over car-hiring services at airports.
In the statement, FAAN expressed satisfaction with the resolution, stating, “The Authority is therefore pleased to announce that, following constructive engagements, FAAN and Bolt have reached an agreeable operational framework, and Bolt is cleared to commence its services at FAAN-managed airports immediately.”
