Jigawa State Police Commissioner Issues Warning Against Misconduct
JIGAWA STATE, Nigeria — Tijjani Murtala, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, has issued a stern warning to police personnel regarding misconduct, abuse of authority, and violations of human rights.
Murtala’s remarks were made during his inaugural conference with the Command Management Team, which included Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, department heads, and other senior officers. The conference took place Thursday and was reported in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
In his address, Murtala emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity in policing. He urged officers to respond promptly to distress calls from the public, stating that such timely action is crucial for saving lives and maintaining public trust in law enforcement.
The Commissioner called for fairness, respect for human dignity, and accountability among officers, warning against behaviors that could negatively impact the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force. He stressed the need for effective leadership and proper supervision among commanders to address the security needs of their communities.
Murtala also advocated for intelligence-led policing, improved information sharing, and coordinated operations to combat crime and enhance public safety in the state. He encouraged officers to strengthen collaborations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, community leaders, and other security agencies. This collaboration aims to facilitate community-based intelligence gathering and proactively address emerging security challenges.
Further emphasizing the need for visible policing, Murtala called for effective crime prevention strategies and better coordination with police commands in neighboring states to address crimes that extend beyond state boundaries.
He reassured residents of the police command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, enforcing law and order, preventing crime, and fostering a safe environment for lawful activities. The Commissioner urged community members to cooperate with police and security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
