Two residents rescued alive from collapsed building in Abuja
Two residents were rescued Friday from the debris of a collapsed one-story building in the Kubwa area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) confirmed the rescue in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Public Relations, Nkechi Isa. She reported that both victims are now receiving treatment at Kubwa General Hospital, where their condition is stable.
According to Isa, the residents were trapped on the ground floor after a portion of the building collapsed. The structure, which consists of six blocks of flats, was mostly unoccupied at the time, as many of the other tenants were away.
FEMD personnel responded promptly to a distress call and successfully extracted the victims from the site. Although no fatalities occurred, Isa noted that the collapse caused considerable damage to personal belongings and household items.
In response to the incident, the FCT’s Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command were dispatched to secure the area and begin investigations into the cause of the structural failure.
