Boxing: Hrgovic wins IBF World Heavyweight title as Itauma hospitalised

Croatian boxer Filip Hrgovic captured the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) world heavyweight title on Saturday night, defeating Britain’s Moses Itauma by ninth-round stoppage at the O2 Arena in London.
Itauma started the fight strong but was carried from the ring on a stretcher and transported to a hospital following the bout.
The title was vacated by Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Usyk prior to the match.
After his victory, Hrgovic acknowledged Itauma’s potential. “I’m the present, and he is definitely the future. He is an amazing fighter, but he needed more experience,” Hrgovic said.
Hrgovic’s record now stands notably higher, with his only previous loss coming against British boxer Daniel Dubois two years ago.
