Alleged drug trafficking: US firm reports $3m bribe offer to stop Tinubu probe
A U.S.-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has reported a $3 million offer made to halt an investigation into alleged drug trafficking involving Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The firm announced this development Thursday in a post on its verified account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Dr. Von Batten, the firm’s leader, stated that he rejected the offers and kept copies of the communications. In the tweet, he emphasized that, “Out of an abundance of caution and to protect our reputation, we reported the incident to the Department of Justice and provided screenshots of the communications we received.”
He noted that the significant sum discussed, proposals for a confidential meeting in London, and the request for communication via disappearing messages prompted the firm to preserve the evidence and alert U.S. authorities.
“We will now allow the DOJ to determine whether the communications warrant any further review,” the firm tweeted.
